How to Apply for Financial Aid

What is Financial Aid


Financial Aid is funds provided from the Department of Education or the State of Texas to help students pay for college if they need financial assistance. Financial Aid is available in the form of grants, a federal work study program and federal student loans according to financial need, academic grades, academic load and/or other eligibility requirements. A student's personal and family resources are considered in determining the student's financial need. Financial Aid is intended to supplement, not replace, the financial resources needed to pay for college.

 

General Eligibility 

 You may be eligible to receive financial aid if:

  • You have a high school diploma, a General Education Development or GED, or have completed secondary school in a home setting.
  • You are enrolled in an eligible program of study.
  • You are a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  • You have a valid Social Security Number.
  • You maintain Satisfactory Academic Progress requirements at all times. (Review the Satisfactory Academic Progress policy).
  • If you are male, you must be in compliance with the Selective Service. Males between the ages of 18-25 must be registered with the Selective Service.
  • You must not be in default on a loan or owe on any grant from the Department of Education or Temple College.
  • You must not owe a refund of financial aid funds for any institution.
  • You must not have been convicted of possession or selling illegal drugs while receiving Financial Aid.

 If you meet these criteria, please visit www.fafsa.ed.gov and complete your FAFSA today. Make sure that you send your FAFSA to Temple College, federal school code is 003627.




How to Apply for Financial Aid

Print off this checklist to for step-by-step instructions.

STEP 1: Go to pin.ed.gov to apply for a Personal Identification Number (PIN) for yourself and a parent (if you are under age 24).

STEP 2: Go to fafsa.ed.gov to complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Send the FAFSA to Temple College, the federal school code is 003627. The FAFSA is the application that determines your eligibility for grants, work-study jobs and federal student loans.

STEP 3: Submit an application for admission into Temple College, with your official high school transcript and college transcripts from ALL institutions attended as well as a copy of your Bacterial Meningitis Vaccination shot record. STEP 4: Check your TC Webmail.To access your Office 365 account, go to https://login.microsoftonline.com and enter in your

User ID which is your NEW TC full email address (i.e., user@stu.templejc.edu) along with your TC Office 365 password. 

User consists of your last name plus the first letter of your first name and the last 3 numbers of your TC Student ID.

Your initial Password is Tcmmddyyyy.  Where mmddyyyy is your birthdate.  Note the “T” is upper case and the “c” lower case.

STEP 5: Check your TConnect account. If your FAFSA was selected for verification by the federal government, additional forms (tax documents, verification worksheet, etc.) will be required to complete the Financial Aid process. You may find what forms you need on your TConnect account. Review the example below to access your TConnect account.

Example:

John Doe, ID: 1234567     →    USERNAME: doej567
BIRTHDAY: March 1, 1985 →    PASSWORD: 030185


STEP 6: Print out the Financial Aid forms and complete. These forms are online under "Forms and Applications" on the left hand side of the page.

STEP 7: Submit all documents to the Financial Aid office immediately. You may fax them to 254-298-8252.

STEP 8: Accept or decline your Financial Aid. You may access your Financial Aid Award letter on TConnect. Accept or decline the Financial Aid. Make sure you have enough funds to pay for your tuition, fees and books. If you have a remaining balance, set up a payment plan with the Cashier's window in One College Centre or online with E-Cashier at www.templejc.edu.
 
NOTE: Remember, you do NOT have Financial Aid until you have an award letter and have accepted funds on TConnect.
 

When to Apply for Financial Aid

You may complete the FAFSA at any time. The FAFSA is available beginning January 1 of each year. We encourage you to fill it out as soon as possible.  

How often to Apply for Financial Aid

You must complete the FAFSA once each year to apply for Financial Aid.
